Reflections from May 26

It's been a wild couple of weeks, my friends. Trying to cover more ground, then needing rest, and having the good fortune to be with friends new and old, on the trail and off. There have been a few 20+ mile days, some crazy weather involving simultaneous hail and lightning storms, some gorgeous weather, plus some unseasonably cold weather. Some stumbles and some triumphs. These last few days have been off trail in the Roanoke area, first with dear friend since the ole pre-verbal days of church day care, Elizabeth, whose fabulous farm and family hosted me, then sharing a couple days with dear high school buddy Veronica. So grateful!
Love them both so much. Now back to trail and hoping the rest has done my legs the good they needed!

Almost to the absolutely lovely Woods Hole Hostel

D’art and Woodsman, finally recovered from their pre-Damascus injuries, and about to take off at a pace I won’t be able to match. Good job guys!

Shelter crew getting ready to head out into another rainy day (last shelter I slept inside due to increased Norovirus breaking out in the trail community)

Eastern Continental Divide

Stream-crossing. I’d stopped taking my shoes off as the trail was so wet and muddy it really only helped clean them up a little bit.

700 miles!

Caution sign - but really could almost apply to the entire trail.

McAfee Knob- we got up at 4am and left out of Huckleberry Hostel to try and catch the sunrise. Then hiked the 20(?) miles into Daleville.

The wonderfully Crazy Legs, from Maine!

Bougie, Puck, Pooh Bear, me, and Lektro, getting BBQ and beer after a long day hike into Daleville.

Elizabeth joined us here, then took me and Lektro to the farm

Veronica picked me up from Elizabeth’s and helped me resupply and recuperate. Such a lovely visit.

Just a random fern and fungus photo.
