Reflections June 26-29

(Southern half of MD, then back to the PA line)
On June 26, that began the second, but southern (see previous post for ) half of the state of Maryland.
Another neighbor, a dear friend from home, flew up and joined us in Harpers Ferry. She – the Rabbi Debra Kassoff – is originally from Maryland and we were hoping this would work out. It did our hosts fat ass and drove us down the hill and we crossed the bridge to the C&O Canal. Along that stretch we met lovely couple bike packing on different trails around the world! We then veered north and up to the mountain ridge that is MD, to introduce “Grunt” (D’s trail name for the noise she kept along as she emerged from her tent, or picked up her backpack, or got up from taking yet another photo of a beautiful mushroom or insect) to the joys of backpacking. She and I ended out three days out there with a pick up from the fantastic Stan, whom Grunt trail-named “Prince”.
Grunt did great, and I think both she and Prince will join me on future pack packing trips after I am done out here.
Once we were off Trail, Debra went back home and Stan drove me to the Pennsylvania line where he and I had started southbound a week earlier. Stan continue driving north on more of his adventure, including a side quest into Duncannon, Pennsylvania to drop the box off for me at the hostel there.
And I hiked on.
